NPD Capability Maturity Assessments: Expert analysis of and reporting to management on NPD practices, processes, and methodologies. Our focus is on delineating the best path forward for fast benefit gains. Includes comparison / benchmarking against best-in-class, in-depth interviewing, cross-organization surveying, process and documentation evaluation, project tracking, behavior and performance assessment, metrics evaluations, and statistical portfolio analysis. Deliverables include current state and gap analysis, as well as project plans detailing specific tasks to quickly realize benefits from improvements to NPD processes, practices and overall productivity. We work diligently with management to craft a single, workable plan for moving organizations forward.

NPD Process Implementation: Comprehensive consulting, expert facilitation and one-on-one coaching for implementing integrated and robust Stage-gate, Front-end, Product Line Planning, Lifecycle Management, and Portfolio and Pipeline Management processes. Adept emphasizes "best practices in implementation" coupled to “best practices in NPD process.” Our focus is on rapid accrual of benefits through the best design and deployment methods.

Stage-Gate Redesign and Streamlining: Evaluation and redesign of an existing Stage-gate or phase gate type process. Adept works to strengthens good elements of existing process, improve weakness, and establish improved, streamlined approaches. Throughout Stage-gate Redesign engagements, Adept remains focused on helping clients realize rapid accrual of desired benefits. Our goal is to minimize process constraints and maximize process gains.

NPD RiskAssessor(TM) Team Reviews: Expert facilitation of NPD project teams using statistical (based on the notable NewProd academic research) and qualitative assessment of NPD projects. This in-depth service drives teams to develop a common understanding of both project risks and the specific actions needed to mitigate the risks. Deliverables include a detail analysis of a project, a specific path forward for the project team, and a common understanding risks and opportunities.  

NPD Benchmarking Summit: Top managers and senior executives interact with their peers from other organizations, focused on specific  topics in New Product Development. This team-to-team, expertly facilitated work session lasts three days and involves up to seven companies. Each Benchmarking Summit cuts across specific issues related to New Product Development productivity.  Summits enable top managers and their teams to interact directly with their peers from non-competitive organizations, guided by a world-class expert in NPD.

NPD Systems Support Assessment: Identifying NPD system needs and constraints, crafting RFP's, fully evaluating all product development and lifecycle management software support systems, crafting a short term and a long term systems deployment plan. This service helps speed the evaluation of systems -- both local systems and enterprise wide - and their match to both the needs and the organization and the constraints oc the organization.  Adept brings a foundation of Knowledge, insight, and experience to these assignments so as to complement the internal knowledge of those familiar with the organization's NPD activities. 

Portfolio and Pipeline Analyses: A detail review of an organization’s portfolio of new product development projects and the assignment of project resources. Includes review of strategic buckets, systems risks (statistical), resource management, inter-project dependencies, pipeline bottlenecks, metrics, views, data collection and storage, and integration with other NPD processes and practices. Deliverables include recommended near term “triage” decisions and actions, as well as specific and detailed practice improvement plans.

Workout Sessions for Improving New Product Development: Purposeful, in-depth, facilitated dialogue among management or product teams. Adept expertly facilitate these intensive sessions to produce specific documents or output related to strategy, NPD processes, or Product Innovation Charters. Strategy-based surveys and one-on-one interviews often precede sessions.  Such sessions improve the quality of the desired output and greatly accelerate its creation.

Customized NPD Training: Creation and delivery of customized programs for all levels of an organization. Specialized in leadership and team-oriented just-in-time training, specific to ongoing projects or processes.  

Expert Sessions: Focused brainstorming session using world-class, scientific, technical or marketing experts recruited from outside the client organization. These one to two day sessions tackle fundamental product development challenges such as creating technical solutions, generating meaningful concepts for potential development, finding product applications to new technologies, or generating and evaluating business models and strategies.

Product Development Briefings: Our briefings inform R&D groups, marketing groups, top management and all others touching the world of new product development the what's, why's and how's of different NPD practices. We place particular attention on the use and benefits of methods, as well as the pro's and con's of different approaches to deployment. Depending upon the needs of the management team, briefings may last between one and four hours. In all cases, we tailor briefings to the specific audience.
